Serenoa repens is a small palm spontaneous subtropical climate zones of the Mediterranean basin especially in North Africa and North America. The leaves are fan-shaped, like other plants of the family to which it belongs, produces fruit like berries and dark red.

COMPOSITION OF 'EXTRACT:
Fatty acids: lauric, myristic, caprylic, capric, palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic acid. Methyl and ethyl esters of fatty acids: beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, campesterol, lupeol, cycloartenol, beta-sitosterol 3-O-beta-D-glucoside. Alcohols, saturated and unsaturated long-chain: hexacosanol, 1-octacosanol carotenoids, flavonoids, such as rutin and isoquercitina.
Polysaccharides, such as galactose, arabinose, xylose, rhamnose, and glucuronic acid gluocosio.

PROPERTY ':
The 'effectiveness of Serenoa repens is given by' set of different mechanisms of 'action:
1) selective antagonism of the link between local dihydrotestosterone and androgen receptor.
2) inhibition of 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme involved in the transformation of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, biologically active metabolite, which stimulates cell proliferation, thus favoring the 'hypertrophy of the prostate tissue, and also stimulates the formation of dandruff and excess sebum on the scalp, to the miniaturization of the hair and its fall.
3) anti-inflammatory and anti-edema, demonstrated by reduced capillary permeability induced by 'histamine. Moreover, it is in fact reduced the 'obstruction cervicoprostatica.
4) anti-estrogenic effect, given by a strong decrease in estrogen receptors, which seems to potentiate the 'hormonal action in the development of BHP.
